My photography is guided by a strong intuitive sense that a picture is waiting to be found and taken. As I go through my day, it is as though a bell goes off announcing – stop, look, seize the moment before it passes. Often the light triggers this response, but it can also come from strong visual lines, or the presence of an individual or group. I shoot broad landscapes and small details, vivid colors or shades of black and white, my familiar home turf and new far away lands. For fifty years, I have cultivated my photographer’s eye. I have learned to heed that quiet voice that says, ‘Stop! Look!’ for the photographic gem hidden right in front of me. I try to capture the moment directly in that shot and do a minimum of digital manipulation. Typically, I have taken pictures for my own satisfaction, occasionally giving one as a gift to a friend or relative. Recently I have experienced the satisfaction that comes from displaying my work in public – the creative process does not end until the picture is shared with others.
